Ford Announces Large Expansion Plans
Earlier this month, Ford Motor announced their intention to invest $773 million to increase production capacity while upgrading manufacturing materials, machines and processes. The vehicles that will see the bulk of the benefits in this large investment are the future F-Series trucks, including the new Ford F-150. The Dearborn Stamping plant will be modernized with the investments, as well as receive four new press lines to help create the Ford F-Series trucks. During 2012, Ford sold over 2 million vehicles, with their F-Series trucks as the biggest sellers, kickstarting the need to upgrade and expand the manufacturing process.
The new manufacturing expansion will create another 2,350 jobs in the area. Other plants will receive expansions, including those that create the Ford Taurus and the Ford Fusion. The assembly lines for the transmission manufacturing will also be expanding with two additional lines being added. Ford will continue to invest in expansions as long as sales stay as strong as they have been.
