2017 Ford Expedition: Style

2017 Ford Expedition style

Experience Expedition capability. Enjoy it in style.

At a glance, Ford Expedition styling conveys the qualities expected in a full-size SUV. Strength. Durability. Safety. It's a design that also speaks volumes about what you'll discover inside: seating for up to eight occupants, plus loads of cargo volume in regular and extended-length models. The Ford Expedition is designed to take its place on the road in a most compelling way.

2017 Ford Expedition Platinum edition design

Expedition Platinum

Seating Capacity

Expedition provides standard seating for up to eight. There's a 7-passenger configuration available with individual 2nd-row bucket seats. When more cargo space is needed, the 3rd-row bench seat can be folded down for a flat load floor. The 2nd-row split bench seats also fold flat to the floor for maximum cargo space.

Exterior Styling

Its dynamic front end creates a look that establishes the Expedition as the flagship of Ford SUVs. But styling isn't all there is. Expedition comes standard with LED fog lamps, running boards, and luggage rack with side rails and adjustable crossbars. Add available enhancements like halogen projector-beam headlamps; power-deployable running boards; side mirrors with heat, signal, memory and security approach features; plus power moonroof.

King Ranch® Interior

The rich interior in the Expedition King Ranch® is trimmed in Mesa Brown leather, which has undergone minimal processing. It's branded with the famous Running W and features Kingsville stitching. The natural grain, rugged thickness and luxurious feel capture the authentic spirit of the historic 825,000-acre King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas. On the convenience side, the front seats can be heated or cooled and are adjustable 10 ways.

22-Inch Polished Aluminum Wheels

Ride comfort and control - and style as well - truly begin at ground level with these 22-inch polished aluminum wheels, designed as part of the Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) System. They're standard on the top-of-the-line Expedition Platinum and optional on the Limited and King Ranch® models. CCD continuously monitors and adjusts the suspension to road conditions. Choose one of three performance modes - comfort, normal or sport.

2017 Ford Expedition extended-length model

Extended-Length Model

When transporting cargo takes priority, the full-size SUV to turn to is the extended-length Expedition EL with its best-in-class 130.8 cu. ft.* You'll find the regular-length Expedition is pretty capable as well with its 108.3 cu. ft. of maximum space behind the front seats (rear seat backs folded). *Behind 1st-row seats with the 2nd- and 3rd-row seats folded flat. Cargo and load capacity limited by weight and weight distribution. Class is Extended Utilities based on Ford segmentation.

Ambient Lighting

Match the interior glow to how you're feeling with available Ambient Lighting. LEDs light up the front and rear footwells, front center console bin and front two cupholders in your choice of seven colors - ICE BLUE®, Orange, Soft Blue, Red, Green, Blue and Purple.

2017 Ford Expedition: Performance

2017 Ford Expedition performance

Outstanding Power. Controlled Ride.

Ford engineers made the 3.5L EcoBoost® the standard engine because they knew how important performance is in this full-size class of vehicle. Ride comfort, too. That's why they gave Expedition an independent rear suspension. Expedition ride quality and control are enhanced even further with the available Continuously Controlled Damping System with 22-inch polished aluminum wheels.

2017 Ford Expedition traction and stability control systems

Traction and Stability Control Systems

Ford Expedition puts technology to work to help keep you in control. Standard AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™) enhances traction by reducing engine power or applying the brakes at the slipping wheel to limit wheelspin. Its two gyroscopic sensors help you maintain control when wheelslip, understeer, oversteer or roll motion is detected, as well as in adverse road conditions. Trailer Sway Control, electronically connected to AdvanceTrac with RSC, helps maintain trailer stability. And there's the available Control Trac® 4-Wheel-Drive System that helps provide more sure-footed traction, on or off the road.

3.5L EcoBoost® Engine

EcoBoost® technology is at the heart of the high standard of performance in the Ford Expedition. The 3.5L EcoBoost is rated at an impressive 365 horsepower and best-in-class* 420 lb.-ft. of standard engine torque. Two technologies combine to make this happen. Advanced direct injection helps maximize power from every drop of fuel. Twin air-to-air intercooled turbochargers deliver a surge of instantaneous on-demand power.

Mechanical Rear Load-Leveling Suspension

The available Rear Mechanical Load-Leveling Suspension levels the chassis when you're carrying a heavy load, enhancing ride quality, handling and stability. Expedition is engineered with an independent multilink rear suspension (IRS) that enables each wheel to negotiate bumps and jolts on its own terms.

Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) System

Expedition is the first Ford model to offer the Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) System with specially designed and tuned 22-inch polished aluminum wheels. A suite of electronic sensors continuously monitors 46 unique suspension, steering, braking and body motions, processing data hundreds of times per second. The damping system responds in milliseconds to help keep you confidently in control. Choose from three settings - comfort, normal or sport - for the performance feel you prefer. CCD is standard on Expedition Platinum and optional on the Limited and King Ranch® models.

2017 Ford Expedition 6-Speed Select Automatic Transmission

6-Speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission with Tow/Haul Mode

The 6-speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission has wide-ratio gearing designed for responsive low-end performance and high-end efficiency. The selectable tow/haul mode improves performance when towing or hauling heavy loads, compensating for grade and load and reduces gear hunting, improving power delivery. The SelectShift feature has two driver-initiated modes: Full Manual mode gives you full control to shift through the gears up and down the gearbox; Progressive Range Select limits the range of gears while in Drive to lock out overdrive for consistent speed over hilly terrain.

Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS)

Electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) uses an electric motor instead of a conventional hydraulic pump. It's an advanced speed-sensitive system that constantly adapts to changing driving conditions to help improve maneuverability and handling. EPAS provides an easy, fluid feel of the wheel during low-speed maneuvers, and gradually becomes firmer as speed increases. And that's not all. The system can offset pulling or drifting caused by steady crosswinds or crowned road surfaces and also damp out wheel vibrations.

Independent Rear Suspension

When designing the Expedition, Ford engineers departed from the conventional solid rear axle in favor of the independent multilink rear suspension (IRS). They chose the IRS because it lets each rear wheel handle harsh road conditions on its own terms, enhancing ride quality and control. The IRS design also allows for a more convenient fold-flat 3rd-row bench seat and low load floor height.

Limited-Slip Rear Axle

To help improve acceleration on wet, icy, muddy or otherwise slippery road surfaces, the available 3.73 limited-slip rear differential can help reduce wheelslip.

Rear View Camera

Slowly backing up a big SUV, especially in tight places or when hitching up to a trailer, is not always an easy task. But technology helps make it easier with the rear view camera that comes standard. Put the gear selector in Reverse and the rear view camera transmits the image of what's behind your vehicle when you're slowly backing up. The large, bright, real-time visual is displayed on the standard 4.2-inch center display, or on the available 8-inch touchscreen (shown) in vehicles equipped with SYNC® 3.
